Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Georgia meet in Baku

Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov met today with his Georgian counterpart Grigol Vashadze, paying a two day visit to Baku.
According to Day.Az, at the briefing following the meeting Mamedyarov said this is the first foreign visit of Vashadze on the post of the Foreign Ministry and the fact that this visit was paid to Azerbaijan proves the level of strategic partnership between the two countries.

"At the meeting the sides discussed issues, concerning both countries, the situation in the region following the August events in Georgia, cooperation both in the framework of GUAM and in the framework of other international organizations", said Mamedyarov.

He noted that the economic cooperation between the two countries is on a high level and the volume of commodity turnover between the two countries grew up to $700,000,000.

"The implementation of joint projects such as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzirum continues. Talks were held regarding the need for the soonest resolution of the project of the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway section. We must do everything possible for our region to be open to the whole world", announced Mamedyarov.

In turn, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze noted that Russia's aggression against Georgia showed the importance of cooperation of all countries of the region in the sphere of security.

"There is a mutual understanding between Azerbaijan and Georgia in all spheres", said he.
