Turkish soldier killed in mine blast

One soldier died in a land mine blast in the southeastern province of Hakkari on Thursday.

The soldier died stepping on a mine believed to have been planted by the militant Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) during an operation against PKK militants in the wake of Wednesday's PKK attacks on military and police targets, which left 24 soldiers dead. Hakkari Governor Muammer Türker said a large-scale operation is still under way against the PKK.
