Only 60 percent of the Uzbek population is covered by mobile communication, reads the “Mobile Economy Russia and the CIS 2018” report by the GSM Association (GSMA), Uzbek media reported.

GSMA, which brings together more than 750 operators around the world and more than 350 mobile ecosystem companies, including phone manufacturers, said in its research that Russia can become one of the world leaders in the transition to the new 5G communication standard.

By 2025, the next generation communication will cover 80 percent of the population of Russia, while the CIS countries will continue to develop the 4G standard by this time.

In 2017, there were a total of 422 million active SIM cards in the CIS countries, with the exception of the Internet of Things. It is expected that by 2025, more than two thirds of all regional connections will account for 4G, while only 12 percent will account for 5G. At the same time, the total number of active SIM cards will grow to 437 million.
