OSCE monitoring at contact line of Azerbaijani, Armenian armies held without incident

The monitoring was held at the frontline in the north-west direction near Kurapatkino village of Azerbaijan's Khojavand region in accordance with the mandate of the Personal Representative of the OSCE.

From the Azerbaijani side, the monitoring was conducted by field assistants to the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Antal Herdich and William Pryor and OSCE's High-Level Planning Group representative Alexander Nepokritix.

From the opposite side, the monitoring was conducted by OSCE Office, Lieutenant-Colonel Imre Palatinus, Field Assistant of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Zhaslan Nurtazin and OSCE High Level Planning Group, Lieutenant-Colonel Fergus Hannon.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994.

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
