Secretary-General of the Council of Europe Torbjorn Jagland has met with GUAM member states permanent representatives to the Council of Europe.

The Permanent Representation of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe said the proposal for a meeting with the secretary-general was raised at the last meeting of GUAM member states permanent representatives.
The parties discussed the challenges during the new Secretary General's term in office, the reforms aimed at promoting political role and international credibility of the Council of Europe, the conflicts in the GUAM area and the Protocol No. 14 for the improvement of the European Court of Human Rights.
The Secretary General noted that there was progress in Russia on the ratification of the protocol and underlined the importance of doing more in this direction in the future.
In addition, the Secretary General said that major structural changes will be made in the Secretariat of the Council of Europe.
During the meeting, the Azerbaijani side emphasized the need to intensify the Council of Europe's efforts in the settlement of "frozen conflicts" in the GUAM area.
The meeting was praised as useful in terms of familiarization of the Secretary General with the developments in the region, and Azerbaijan.
