"I did not expect such a superficial statement on Azerbaijan from the experts of the Council of Europe", said member of the Yeni Azerbaijann Party, deputy of Milli Majlis Aydin Mirzazade, commenting on concerns about the possibility of the Council of Europe in Azerbaijan, amendments to the law on NGOs, which, according to European experts, are restricting human rights.
"These amendments could have been analyzed and opinions substantiated, but we do not see it. There are only general allegations in a form of any political slogans. This shows that it primarily is a forced imposition of some principles on Azerbaijan", stressed A. Mirzazade.
He noted that Azerbaijan is an equal member of the Council of Europe.
"But the fact that Azerbaijan is a member of the organization does not mean that it should align all the documents to with the CoE experts. For certain matters of principle, it would be possible to consult with them, as it was in the case with the Election Code, but in general it is an internal affair of Azerbaijan, and in accordance with this principle, we introduce amendments", said the deputy. According to him, today the CE experts of instead of taking an objective approach to the issue give preference to support for the position of one party in Azerbaijan.
"I think that this is an internal affair of Azerbaijan and the Azeri parliament will cope with these issues better than the experts of the Council of Europe", concluded the party activist.
