11 November 2008 [17:39] - TODAY.AZ
There is a need for transfer to the state financing of political parties and review of the out-of-date law "On political parties" in Azerbaijan, considers Ramiz Mehtiyev, chief of executive board of the country president.

"The law "On political parties", adopted in the early 1990s creates definite problems for our democratic development due to failure to comply with Azerbaijan's current realities", said Mehtiyev in his article, published in Azerbaijan newspaper Tuesday.

He said the issue of state financing of political parties has become urgent today not only for Azerbaijan but also for most democratic states of the West, according to Interfax-Azerbaijan.

"The widely spread practice implies coverage of all parties, represented in the parliament by the state financing", noted the head of the presidential administration. He noted that measures, taken in the European countries in this direction, in particular, Turkey and France, "must avert financing of the political parties from the side of different structures of the foreign countries "as those who pays may have their orders".

Mehtiyev considers that Azerbaijan's current realities make it necessary to reform the activity of the political parties of the country.

"This will primarily create possibility for regeneration of the parties, new presentation of their activity and ideological line to the public. The development of our society does not recognizes artificial existence of numerous small parties on the political arena and make it necessary to develop activity of several political parties with a constructive and specific ideology", noted the head of the administration.

According to Mehtiyev, these steps promote the formation of a new political culture in Azerbaijan and demonstration of left, right and centrist parties of the new generation.

A provision for the further successful development of Azerbaijan is public unification around national ideas, including restoration of the territorial integrity of the country, considers Ramiz Mehtiyev.

"We must closely unite around our priorities, turn the national idea into power, which is the main stimulus of national consolidation.

The transformation of Azerbaijan into a competitive area and restoration of the territorial integrity are the main examples of national idea", said Mehtiyev.

The head of the presidential administration noted that Azerbaijan have acquired an image of the most rapidly developing country of the region and the world through the past five years of its successful economic development and the country is a model of intensive and effective development, which is urgent for most countries of the world.
