Azerbaijani human rights activists to present list of political prisoners at PACE session

Four human rights activists of Azerbaijan – Arzu Abdullayeva, Novella Jafaroglu, Seadet Bananyarli and Saida Gojamanli- will present a list of 33 political at the next session of Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) to be held on January 21-25,  according to Novella Jafaroglu.

The human rights activist said the Monitoring Group of Human Rights amended the list of 51 prisoners regarded as political prisoners after the recent decree of pardon.

“We will submit the list of 33 prisoners to CE this time, as 18 prisoners were released,” he said.

Novella Jafaroglu said that they will leave for Strasburg tomorrow.

The human right activists are expected to meet with the CE leaders, CE Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammerberg, PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan, leadership of Venice Commission and “Ago” group in the framework of the visit.
