Khalaf Khalafov: “New president in Iran can bring changes to status of the Caspian Sea”

New president’s seizing the power in Iran can result in changes to the question of the status of the Caspian Sea.
These words were told by the foreign affairs deputy-minister Khalaf Khalafov.

The deputy-minister informed that new recommendations can be put forward on dividing the bottom of the Caspian Sea between Iran and Azerbaijan. Khalaf Khalafov noted that the next sitting of the Working Group representing the coastal countries on the status of the Caspian Sea will be held in Baku in September. Work is conducted in connection with determining the date of the meeting and organizing the meeting at present, and the question are agreed with the members of the Working Group. The Working Groups of all coastal countries will participate in the Baku meeting.

Khalaf Khalafov stressed that the bilateral talks with the Turkmenistan side on dividing the bottom of the Caspian Sea in the two-sided form are continued and no decision has been adopted in connection with the meeting yet. The Working group of the coastal countries can held the separate meeting with Turkmenistan on bilateral talks after the meeting to be held in Baku in September.
