The Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Company (CASPAR) and the Croatian Shipyard Uljanik have signed an agreement to manufacture 2 new ferries for Azerbaijan.
The agreement was signed by Caspar chief Aydin Bashirov and Uljanik Management President Anton Brajkovic.
Under the Agreement, Azerbaijan may order for another 3 ferries. The 2 ferries will be commissioned in October 2012.
According to the Agreement, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which will link Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, is to be commissioned in the near future, boosting cargo flow through the Eurasian transport corridor TRACECA. "Expansion of the shipping fleet will allow transporting greater volumes of cargo," Caspar chief Bashirov said.
The cost of building ferries for Azerbaijan will be 22 million euros per vessel. The ferries will have the capacity to hold up to 54 cars.
