Azerbaijani scientist arrested in Iran charged with revealing laser technology know-how

Charges against Azerbaijani scientist arrested in Iran have become known, Head of the Committee Defending the Rights of Rashid Aliyev, Director of the Laser Scientific-Research Center, Soltanhamid Malikov said.
He told that Rashid Aliyev is charged with revealing Iran's laser technology know-how  and electronic schemes in Azerbaijan.

"But Rashid rejected these accusations saying that there aren’t any professional on laser technology in Iran and that is why he was invited to this country," Malikov said.

Azerbaijani embassy in Iran has already been informed about it.

Malikov also noted that Azerbaijani embassy in Iran had given an advocate for defending Aliyev's rights.

"The case is under control of the Iran’s embassy in Azerbaijan. The measures are being taken for his release. Issues on Aliyev will be on agenda of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani parliament) soon."

Rashid Aliyev, the leading engineer of the lab of Physical Problems Institute of Baku State University, worked in Sazan Electronics Industry Company in 2006-2008 at the invitation of the company.

Aliyev last returned to Iran on Oct. 5, 2009 after insistent invitation by the company’s director Abbas Eftekhari.

On Oct. 6, 2009, he was arrested because of alleged visa problems.
