Nushirevan Magerramli: "If Russia's law does not allow broadcasting Azerbaijani channels on its territory, our laws will also not permit broadcasting of a Russian channel in Azerbaijan"

15 December 2007 [10:32] - TODAY.AZ
Russia is said not to be ready to broadcast Azerbaijani channel on its territory.
The statement was made by the chairman of the National Television and Radio Council of Azerbaijan, Nushirevan Magerramli.

He noted regarding the fruitless meeting of the work groups, held in Moscow, that they will adopt a due resolution once the Azerbaijani government declares its position.

"At present a delegation led by the deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyubov is in process of negitations in Moscow. We will adopt a definite resolution upon their return, after the Azerbaijani government declares its position on the issue".

N.Magerranli explained that the Russian legislation does not allow broadcasting the AzTV channel on the Russian territory and the neighbor country is not ready to it technically and does not display serious interest in the issue.

"Our position will be adequate. If Russia's law does not allow broadcasting Azerbaijani channels on its territory, our laws will also not permit broadcasting of a Russian channel in Azerbaijan. We merely did not want to undertake one-sided steps considering high level of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.

As the situation is a fault of the Russian side, Azerbaijan will stop broadcasting its channel on its territory. Yet we do not hurry and will make a decision following the study of a categoric position".
