Hunger strike in Gobustan jail officially confirmed

Hunger-striking prisoner Mehman Muradov's sister Khuraman Muradova told APA 40 prisoners are going on hunger strike. The relative of other prisoner's said 33 prisoners started the hunger strike. They are Khalafiyev Naghi, Hanifayev Samadagha, Bahkhshaliyev Yadigar, Mirzayev Mahaammnad, Iskandarov Fikrat, Ahmadov Elbrus, Atakishiyev Mehdi, Guliyev Ali, Rzakhanov Shakir, Karimov Dyanat, Rzayev Yalchin, Shirinov Eldar, Khaspoladov Afig, Zeynalov Natig, Gaibov intigam, Alasgarov Nizami, Ismayilov Tabriz, Mammadov Gurban, Mammadov Ali, Pashayec Chingiz, Eyvazov Rauf, Gadirov Ramiz, Muradov Mehman, Jafarov Bakhtiyar, Ibrahimov Elbrus, Mamadaliyev Sahib, Valiyev Lazimat, Shahmuradov Yashar, Maharramov Nadir, Gadirov Ibrahim, Mehraliyev Heydar, Aliyev Bakhikhan, Ismayilov Yashar.

Justice Ministry Penitentiary Service Public Relation's chairman Rafig Ramazanov confirmed the hunger strike case in Gobustan at the end of the day. He said the hunger strike started today but not on April 14. Rafig Ramazanov who visited Gobustan prison said the applications of hunger strikers' are now being investigated. Not indicating concrete number Rafig Ramazanov said not many prisoners went on hunger strike.

The life-term prisoners who went on hunger strike applied to commute their punishment to 15-year imprisonment. The hunger strike action that began on March 27 requested with the same applications but ended after right activists visited those ten prisoners.
