Sadygov has long been recognised as Azerbaijan's leading footballer, but when the former national team captain left Turkish club Kayersispor in the summer, his plans to sign for Baku giants PFC Neftchi were scuppered due to the local transfer window shutting eleven days before the Europe-wide deadline. No exception was made for the 24-year-old star, so he upped sticks and took up basketball, joining BK NTD as he turned down a chance to play for Neftchi's footballing reserves.
