The concept of the sporting all-rounder is not new. In England, there is a long list of players who represented their country at football in the winter and cricket in the summer - Scotland's Andy Goram a recent example - while in the United States Bo Jackson famously starred at both gridiron and baseball. Now Rashad Sadygov can be added to that list.

Sadygov has long been recognised as Azerbaijan's leading footballer, but when the former national team captain left Turkish club Kayersispor in the summer, his plans to sign for Baku giants PFC Neftchi were scuppered due to the local transfer window shutting eleven days before the Europe-wide deadline. No exception was made for the 24-year-old star, so he upped sticks and took up basketball, joining BK NTD as he turned down a chance to play for Neftchi's footballing reserves. And his vest-clad debut was not bad, as he 'slam-dunked' 14 points to help his side win the 'ball game', possibly on a 'road trip' in order to complete a 'three-peat', as our 'hoop-loving' American cousins would say.
