Abulfaz Garayev: "CE considers condition of historical monuments to be investigated objectively"

25 April 2006 [16:24] - TODAY.AZ
"We discussed many issues in our meetings in Council of Europe. All discussions were aimed at Azerbaijan's joining European cultural processes," Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev visiting Strasbourg stated.

As APA reports, saying views were exchanged on issues from cinema to protection of national heritage, Mr. Garayev noted that the aim is not only to ensure participation of official Baku in CE projects concerning Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe, but also intensify activity of our country in projects covering all Europe.

"Among the questions raised, there was Armenians' claim on alleged destruction of alleged Armenian monuments by Azerbaijanis. Azerbaijan’s stance remains unchanged in this issue. That is CE fact-finding mission should visit not only Azerbaijan but also Armenia to investigate firsthand the condition of monuments belonging to Azerbaijanis. CE welcomed our position. CE leadership considers that this approach is more objective and reflects the balance."

The Minister said that composition of the mission would completely be formed by May and the mission will visit Azerbaijan in late May or early in June. Mr. Garayev stressed that Azerbaijani Foreign Minister would submit all required documents to CE structures.

Mr. Garayev said that he would leave Strasbourg for other countries. But he didn't refer to names of the countries.
