New road to Nakhchivan will be laid through Iran

19 September 2011 [08:45] - TODAY.AZ
A new Bilasuvar-Bazarkend Highway will be laid through Iran to connect Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Iran's Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ali Nikzad told reporters in Parsabad, IRNA reported.

He said the highway construction will be performed by the Hatamul-anbiya organization.

The Hatamul-anbiya organization is governed by the Iranian Armed Forces and military and economic organization of the Revolutionary Guards Corps ‘Sepah’. The organization’s certain section subordinated to Sepah is involved in a number of large-scale economic projects in Iran.

"An agreement on this issue has already been signed with the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Hatamul-anbiya organization and one of the country's banks," he said.
He said the highway construction is aimed to facilitate passenger and cargo traffic.

"The ministry will finance some 50 percent of the highway construction and the private sector- the rest," Nikzad said.

Nikzad said an Ardabil- Parsabad railway will soon be constructed.

The minister, who was in Parsabad city at the border with Azerbaijan during Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to the region, also told reporters that in the near future a railway from Ardabil to Parsabad will be laid.

"We promise to local residents that an Ardabil- Parsabad railway will soon be constructed and it will be connected with the railways of Azerbaijan, Russia and China," he said.

The amount of investment in the road projects was not announced.
