17 August 2011 [17:54] - TODAY.AZ
Russia and Iran stand for no external pressure on the Caspian littoral states. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made this statement following talks with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Akbar Salehi, ITAR-TASS reported.

"Bilateral partnership yields results also in cooperation in the Caspian Sea,"Lavrov said. "Russia and Iran are interested stable, prosperous region, so that those countries in the region were not subjected to external pressure, their choice was respected, and they could independently build a multi-aspect cooperation among themselves," he said.

Lavrov does not doubt that Moscow and Tehran have great prospects for cooperation. "Our interests are not limited to the Caspian region," he said. "There are good relations with many countries in the Middle East and North Africa."

"It is pointless that Russia and Iran exchanged views on the subject of events taking place there and tried to contribute to the peaceful political and diplomatic settlement of a number of conflicts and situations that have not ceased, unfortunately," Lavrov said.
