Erdogan blames Armenian Diaspora over fail in normalization

14 April 2011 [14:53] - TODAY.AZ
Armenia’s authorities are not taking decisive steps over the ratification of the Armenia-Turkey Protocols in fear of the Armenian Diaspora, Turkish prime minister has said.

In response to questions by Armenian delegations at a meeting within the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Wednesday, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey “feels no hatred towards Armenia.”

"Armenia’s leadership is afraid of the diaspora. We are not afraid of anyone," Turkish news agency Cihan quoted Erdogan as saying.

"If the Armenian authorities overcome the diaspora fear, it will be easier to solve the issue," he said. "We don’t feel any hatred towards Armenia."

The Armenia-Turkey normalization process was halted last spring when Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree and suspended the ratification of the Armenia-Turkey Protocols in the parliament after Turkey linked their ratification to the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
