Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has filed a lawsuit against the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph because a recently published article asserts that the AKP receives financial support from Iran, TRT Russian website reports.
After a referendum on constitutional amendments passed in Turkey on Sunday, the British newspaper published an article claiming that Iran has allocated $25 million to the Justice and Development Party to fund its election campaign in upcoming elections in 2011.
The newspaper writes that Iran has already handed over $12 million to the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who intends to run for a third term, while the remaining funds will be given later. Turkey's ruling party has denied the claim, stating that it intends to seek justice in local and international courts.
