Turkish Cyprus President in Turkey meets leaders

Turkish President Abdullah Gul met President Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) at the Presidential Palace in Ankara on Thursday.
The meeting between Gul and Talat lasted for nearly one hour.

On Wednesday Talat had meetings with Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and State Minister & Chief Negotiator for EU Talks Egemen Bagis.

Talat is actually visiting Turkey to discuss recent developments regarding Cyprus.

TRNC will elect its new president on April 18. Talat is one of the presidential candidates, and he has run for president independently.

On March 13, the Higher Board of Elections of TRNC announced temporary candidates for the president.

Independent candidates are Mustafa Kemal Tumkan, Arif Salih Kirdag, Zeki Besiktepeli, Ayhan Kaymak, Serap Tezcan and Tahsin Ertugruloglu.

Dervis Eroglu, the actual prime minister of TRNC, has also run for the president as the candidate of the National Unity Party.
