Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan: Armenia will withdraw from the protocols with Turkey

11 March 2010 [22:17] - TODAY.AZ
Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan, while in France, gave an interview to a French newspaper Le Figaro, where he spoke out about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the Turkish-Armenian relations.
Sargsyan pointed out, that "Turkey will not ratify the protocols in the near future", and so Armenia has the right "to withdraw its signature from the protocols".

"I have a great aspiration to establish normal relations, but the recent statements by Turkey made me believe that it will not ratify the Protocols in the near future. We have warned that if Turkey trades reconciliation process on other purposes, we will take adequate steps. In this case we will withdraw our signature from the Protocols", Sargsyan said.

Speaking about the long lasting Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenian president pointed out, that Armenian side "is not afraid of war, if there is no alternative".

According to Sargsyan, "Azerbaijan seeks to give an impression that Armenia and Karabakh are not interested in resolution, which is not the case. We have to end the blockade, which is an obstruction. This is not the case with Azerbaijan: it relies on natural resources and petrodollars to buy arms and settle the issue by force. They don’t conceal their intentions".
