Turkish PM says solidarity with Syrian people is ‘vital’

17 February 2012 [19:40] - TODAY.AZ
It is important to be in solidarity with the Syrian people even though the U.N. Security Council decision process failed, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told his British counterpart David Cameron during a phone call yesterday.

Erdogan further said the international community should not stand aside and watch the crisis as the death toll, now a frightening 7,000, rises.

Nearly 10,000 refugees are now in Turkey in flight from the situation in their country, he added. Erdogan also mentioned the Friends of Syria meeting next week in Tunisia, where the priority should be "to support the Arab League initiative" on the matter.

The conversation ended by both parties agreeing to continue consultation between Turkey and Britain.  Cameron also wished Erdogan to “get well soon” following the second surgery he underwent earlier this week, Dogan news agency reported.
