Azerbaijani parliamentarian: Mass grave in Guba is a testament to Armenian nationalists' atrocities

31 March 2010 [15:38] - TODAY.AZ
"This is a tragic date in the history of the Azerbaijani people,” Member of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (Parliament) Musa Guliyev said commenting on the events of March 31, 1918, which are commemorated as a Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.

"Armenian nationalists have committed many other genocides against peaceful Azerbaijani people at different times. The genocide was committed in 1905-1907 and other years as well. In 1918, Dashnaks committed crimes against Azerbaijanis upon the order of the head of the Council of People's Commissars Stepan Shaumian," he said.

Guliyev said "the Armenian nationalists’ policy of genocide had a single goal - to capture Azerbaijani lands.

"Thousands of innocent Azerbaijanis were massacred in an attempt to create Armenian state in Azerbaijan’s territory. Tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis were brutally killed in March 1918. At the same time the Armenian nationalists abused the corpses of those killed, brutally killed women and children, burned alive Azerbaijani religious figures and sacred books of Quran,” the MP added.

“These facts were left without due political and judicial assessment during the Soviet times.”

"These historical facts were given legal assessment thanks to national leader Heydar Aliyev," he said.

According to Guliyev, Azerbaijan must constantly remind the world community about the facts of genocide, ethnic cleansing and deportations by Armenian nationalists against the Azerbaijani population.

"More than two million Azerbaijanis have experienced ethnic cleansing and deportations. The deportations were carried out in 1918, 1948-1952 and 1988. Besides, secret deportations were also carried out expelling Azerbaijanis from their native lands," he said.

"We must constantly inform the world about ethnic cleansing committed by Armenian nationalists in Baku, Shamakhi and Guba. Mass grave in Guba is a testament to the atrocities of the Armenian nationalists. Similar burial can be found in Shamakhi, Ganja where Dashnaks killed tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis. We must investigate all the facts and present them to the parliaments of those countries that discuss the so-called "Armenian genocide,” Guliyev added.

"I express my condolences to the people of Azerbaijan whose representatives suffered from the genocide,” he noted.
