
On Nov. 6, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva attended an opening ceremony of the international conference “Inter-religious dialogue: from mutual understanding to joint cooperation” to mark the 60th birthday of chairman of the Clerical Office of Caucasus Muslims Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazadeh and 30 year-anniversary of his activity as sheikhulislam.
Addressing the event, President Ilham Aliyev described the conference as the landmark event.
The Head of State noted Baku`s hosting the conference is not accidental since Azerbaijan contributes to interreligious dialogue.
The Head of State expressed assurance that discussions to be held and decisions to be made at the conference would contribute to interreligious dialogue around the world.
President Aliyev described religious tolerance in Azerbaijan as the result of the country`s public policy.
President Ilham Aliyev noted Azerbaijan is the part of the Islamic world and people of Azerbaijan are committed to its religion and national traditions. Azerbaijan is an active member of not only the Organization of the Islamic Conference but also Europe`s respected international organizations.
President Ilham Aliyev noted Azerbaijan has grown into the center for dialogue between religions and cultures. He stressed the need for such kind of dialogues to ensure peace in the world.
Azerbaijani leader expressed deep gratitude to sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazadeh for his contribution to the interreligious dialogue and the stand he took during hardships in the country.
President Ilham Aliyev presented Allahshukur Pashazadeh with the “Sharaf” (Honor) order.
