Asim Mollazade: "We should not endlessly knock at EU doors with a request to admit Azerbaijan to this organization"

26 January 2009 [15:54] - TODAY.AZ
"I am sure that of all South Caucasus states EU would prefer to see Azerbaijan and Georgia among its new members and not Armenia, which is the main destabilizing factor in our region", considers chairman of the Democratic Reforms Party Asim Mollazade.
He said today Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine and many other countries are successfully cooperating in the framework of the neighborhood policy with EU.

"I am sure that our country needs to assimilate most values of the European Union, especially in the legislative and educational system. As for EU membership, here Azerbaijan has to maintain balanced and pragmatic approach to this issue and decide for itself whether it is profitable to be a full member of the European Union for a country, which has such rich energy sources?

In other words, we need not to knock endlessly at EU doors with a request to admit Azerbaijan. Moreover I think  it would also be expedient for Turkey, which has been unsuccessfully striving for EU membership for long, to create a new common system with the GUAM and Middle Asian states", concluded Asim Mollazade.
