Mail.Ru vs. Day.Az

30 October 2008 [10:50] - TODAY.AZ
Today.Az has been posting materials about publication of false information at Russian portal Mail.Ru, in which Nagorno Karabakh was called "Artsakh" and fixed as part of Armenia.
In the result of this action, which involved not only our readers, but also the embassy of Azerbaijan to Russia, Mail.Ru corrected its "mistake" and then posted an article with its own vision of the fact.

Being loyal to the principles of pluralism, we are posting the complete and unchanged text of the article:

-----

"Day.Az (as well as Today.Az) have recently posted several materials abusing the portal Mail.Ru and its employees.

The formal cause for these articles became a mistake, made on the page of tariffs on VoIP-calls in the Mail.Ru Agent instant messenger where Nagorno Karabakh was mistakenly fixed as part of Armenia. We would like to draw attention of the readers that the list of directions and the overall information about the tariffs on phone calls, available for Mail.Ru agent usersб are provided to Mail.Ru portal by partner companies in the automatic regime. The portal Mail.Ru has nothing to do with this information. Nevertheless, after learning about the aforementioned mistake, we immediately contacted the partner company and asked them to correct it which was done right away.

Yet, the Day.Az website continues publishing materials, abusing the portal and its employees. By these articles the website incites national enmity, calling the Mail.Ru portal "pro-Armenian" and stating groundlessly that the company has certain "Armenian employees", who "are deliberately spoiling the good neighbor relations between Russia and Azerbaijan".

Moreover, under Day.Az initiative, Mail.Ru officers continue receiving letters from this website readers, mostly abusing the employees of the Mail.Ru portal, regardless of the nationality, and the whole Armenian people.

It is disgusting that Day.Az website, by speculating on the popularity of the Mail.Ru portal and feelings of Azerbaijani and Armenian internet users, tries to raise its influence. Though the mistake was corrected, the Day.Az website continues inciting international enmity by publishing libel against Mail.Ru and its officials, for example, accusing the portal of the so-called special support of "pro-Armenian" news websites. Such statements are nothing but working of a sick imagination - Mail.Ru is cooperating with news agencies, considering only the quality and quantity of the materials, posted on their websites.

We want to state officially that Mail.Ru has equal attitude towards all of its users, regardless of their nationality or a country in which they reside, no matter whether it is Armenia or Azerbaijan or any other state. Our employees are not prejudiced towards other nations and the services they create have no political subtext.

We would like to apologize to the Azerbaijani and Armenian users of Mail.Ru for the established situation.

Do not yield to provocations of the Day.Az and Today.Az websites - the information, they provide, does not correspond to the reality".
