NATO Assistant Secretary General: "NATO believes that Azerbaijan will hold democratic elections"

NATO believes that Azerbaijan will hold democratic elections, said NATO assistant secretary general on public diplomacy Jean Francois Bureau, according to Novosti-Azerbaijan.
"The upcoming presidential elections is a good opportunity for Azerbaijan to demonstrate the democracy level in the country to the world", noted he on Tuesday at the conference "Azerbaijan's integration with Euroatlantic area and democratic elections".

He said the events, similar to the current conference, positively influence the democratization process in Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan and other countries of the region have chosen the way to Euroatlantic integration. We are ready to support this intention of Azerbaijan".

The NATO assistant secretary general announced that Azerbaijan has attained great achievements since the start of implementation of the Individual Partnership Actions Plan with NATO. The second stage of this program opens new opportunities for Azerbaijan and will have a positive impact on democratic processes in the country.

"Azerbaijan has turned into a safe country, a country, exporting this security, and we support it".

In turn, US ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse noted the following:

"The United States conisder that Azerbaijan's integration with the Euroatlantic community is the best way to ensure sovereignty and successful development".

She said it will strengthen Azerbaijan's independence and ensure the security of the country.

Anne Derse also expressed confidence that Azerbaijan will hold democratic elections and stressed the role of press in the establishment of a democratic society.
