EU intends to negotiate with Baku on freedom of expression

22 May 2007 [08:35] - TODAY.AZ
European Union made a statement on the state of freedom of expression in Azerbaijan when Eynulla Fatullayev was arrested and we remain in this position, said Per Stankina, Ambassador of Germany chairing the European Union.

Ambassador said there is no need to rally in the streets, negotiations should be carried out.

The sides have to debate on the problem. We intend to negotiate on the state of freedom of expression with official Baku. We proposed them to organize training. I have recently talked to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov regarding this, he told the APA.

Stankina also underlined that European Union as well as Germany has friendship relations with Azerbaijan, and such problems are not solved through sanctions but diplomatically.
