Iran denies German report on secret nuke fund

18 November 2006 [13:00] - TODAY.AZ
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Berlin categorically denied a recent report in the weekly Der Spiegel news magazine which alleged that Tehran had a secret fund to finance its nuclear activities.

All of Iran's nuclear activities are under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and there have been no references about secret activities in the IAEA reports, the embassy said in a statement, IRNA reported.

On the issue of the construction of a new nuclear power plant, we state that there is no need for secrecy since the IAEA is supporting the rights of countries to use peaceful nuclear energy. Furthermore, if the Islamic Republic of Iran would want to undertake such steps, it ould announce and act openly, the statement added.

Developing Iran's peaceful nuclear program does not require the approval of a secret budget and all of Iran's nuclear activities are supervised by the IAEA, it said.

Publishing these kinds of reports by unknown and suspicious sources are merely aimed at creating a hype and influencing the Iranian nuclear dossier. The growing number of news reports which are blatant lies and are published by Zionist circles lack any kind of newsworthiness, the release noted.

Moreover these lies have been proven time and again and will only cause the readers of the magazine to lose faith in its reporting, the embassy statement concluded. IranMania
