GUAM leaves CIS without Azerbaijan

12 May 2006 [12:06] - TODAY.AZ
The Moldovian authorities practically supported Georgian-Ukrainian initiative on leaving the CIS.

On May 11, Moldovian Foreign Minister Andrei Stratan stated that "the government will express its opinion concerning parliamentary initiative on the republic's dropping out of the CIS, after an appropriate conclusion on the question is received from republican ministries."

According to Stratan, this initiative is being considered by the Moldavian government, which "expects a conclusion of the central authorities." "Taking the fact into consideration, the government will prepare its proposals and send them to the parliament," the Moldovian foreign ministry stated.

It should be reminded that Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine belong to the regional GUAM organization. Azerbaijan, leaders and public persons of which do not make statements on possible leaving the CIS, belongs to the same organization.
