16 October 2008 [14:23] - TODAY.AZ
The editorial board of the Azadlyg newspaper has filed a claim to the European Court of Human Rights, said sources from the Institute for Media Rights.
The claim states the violation of articles 10, 6 of the European convention of human rights, the need to compensate of material and moral damage.

It should be noted that an article "Contours of counter-admiral" was published in the Azadlyg newspaper in May of 2006. Commander of the marine forces of Azerbaijan Shahin Sultanov filed a claim to the Sabail district court, stating the abuse of his honor and dignity, business reputation of the armed forces, the need to pay AZN 100,000 and institute a criminal proceeding against the author.

The court passed a decision about compensation of AZN 1,165 to the plaintiff and refutation of the article. In this connection Azadlyg newspaper filed an appeal to the Appellate Court but the instance granted it only partially. Then the newspaper editorial board sent a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court, but the instance has dismissed it.
