Police captain arrested for smuggling illicit drugs

Azerbaijan's National Security and Interior Ministries conducted a joint operation neutralizing an organized gang involved in smuggling narcotic drugs in Azerbaijan from Iran.

The National Security Ministry Public Affairs office told August 5, 2006, Yardimli region resident, police office registration and identity card group general inspector, police captain Siyaset Shahbazov and Baku resident Rafig Aliyev were detained.

During survey in Aliyev's house 12 kg 807 grams of hashish were found.

It turned out that Iranian citizen, whose identity is investigated, handed the narcotic drugs he could smuggle in to Shahbazov on 4 August. Shahbazov brought the drugs to Baku and gave to Rafig Aliyev on August 5.

The National Security Ministry launched a criminal case on the fact.
