US, Turkey launch new counter-terrorism effort

The United States and Turkey are launching a new counter-terrorism effort that will be joined by 30 other countries, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday, dpa reported.

The new effort, to be called the Global Counterterrorism Forum, will bring together "traditional allies, emerging powers and Muslim-majority countries," Clinton said in a speech in New York.

The announcement comes just two days before the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States.

Clinton said that the US and Turkey will serve as founding co-chairs.
