Official: Iran still stands 2 in OPEC ranking

25 July 2011 [09:00] - TODAY.AZ
Iranian OPEC Governor Mohammad Ali Khatibi rejected reports that Iran is listed after Nigeria in the oil cartel ranking, ISNA) reported.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has recently released a report, claiming that some changes were made in position of certain countries.

The report added Nigeria with 2,248,000 barrels output daily has replaced Iran, the second largest oil producer.

The report came whereas Khatibi has called statistics on Nigerian output "questioning" and said, "how the country (Nigeria) has raised its output, whereas there has been no increase in its output."

He said Iranian experts are probing into the statistics and that, "experts believe some figures specified in the report are ambiguous and they do not confirm rise of Nigerian exports."

He reiterated that, "the basis for OPEC ration is output, not exports and Iran is still ranked the second OPEC oil producer and no change has been made in its position."

The statistics department of OPEC which releases the statics never analyzes them," he told ISNA.
