Quake jolts southeast Iran

An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale hit the vicinity of Farghan in the joint border area of Kerman and Hormuzgan provinces, southeast Iran, Saturday morning, IRNA reported.

The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University registered the tremor at 01:19 hour’s local time (2149 GMT).

The quake was epicentered in an area located at 28.15 degrees in latitude and 38.36 degrees in longitude. There are no immediate reports on any damage to property caused by the quake.

Iran is often hit by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world’s most active seismic fault lines.
