Turkey expects Germany to return historical artifact

10 March 2010 [14:10] - TODAY.AZ
Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay on Tuesday urged German officials to return in the shortest possible time a historical artifact to Turkey.
"I have made Turkey's case very clearly over the return of the Bogazkoy Sphinx. I have conveyed our strong and persistent hope that we would receive a positive response from Germany by the end of the year," Gunay told the Anadolu Agency after a meeting with German State Minister Cornelia Pieper.

The Bogazkoy Sphinx from the ancient capital Hattusa was taken for restoration to Germany in 1917 during the Ottoman Empire. It is currently on display in Berlin's Pergamon Museum.

Gunay was in Berlin to attend the 44th International Tourism Bourse (ITB).
