Rescue of two people has caused a nationwide joy since hopes are fading away to find any more survivors under rubble.
Turkish search-and-rescue team, GEA, has pulled alive two people from rubble five days after a magnitude-7 quake devastated Haiti, Anadolu news agency said.

Upon requests of quake survivors, members of the team began rescue efforts at a collapsed shopping mall. After 36 hours of efforts, a man and a woman were rescued from the rubble of the five-storey Caribbean shopping mall.

Rescue of two people has caused a nationwide joy since hopes are fading away to find any more survivors under rubble.

Nine-member GEA team left for Haiti on January 14 after a powerful quake devastated this country on January 12.

Meanwhile, the first team of Turkish relief agency, the Red Crescent, has arrived in quake-struck Haiti.

The Red Crescent said in a statement that the team had begun distributing aid including potable water, milk, infant food, biscuits and chocolate to quake survivors.

"Two military cargo planes of the Turkish Armed Forces carrying medical equipment, tents, blankets, foodstuffs and body bags have already left for Haiti. A second team of three experts is also on its way," the statement read.

The quake killed thousands of people and left thousands of others homeless and destitute. It was the most devastating quake recorded in the last two centuries.
