Zarif: Iran ready for closer co-op with EU on Syria

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has expressed Tehran’s readiness for closer cooperation with the EU regarding the Syrian crisis.

Javad Zarif and European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini met in Tehran this morning to discuss bilateral ties as well as regional developments, in particular finding solutions to end the Syrian conflict “with a view to future”, Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on its official website.

At the meeting, Zarif welcomed EU’s constructive role in resolving the crisis in Syria, the announcement added.

Earlier upon her arrival in Tehran, Federica Mogherini wrote on Twitter that she was scheduled to confer with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday.

Mogherini’s visit to Tehran comes following Zarif’s intensive talks with his Russian and Syrian counterparts, Sergey Lavrov and Walid Muallem.

The EU official is slated to leave Tehran for Saudi capital, Riyadh this evening.
