Turkey to keep hydrocarbons import from Iran

Turkey will continue importing hydrocarbons from Iran, despite some disagreements that exist between the two countries, Anadolu Agency quotes Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz as saying.

"Turkey and Iran are fraternal countries. Our views may differ on some issues, but it will not affect our cooperation in the energy sector," Yildiz said.

According to Yildiz, one fifth of Turkey's needs in natural gas is met through imports from Iran, therefore, Western sanctions against Iran will not affect gas import from this country.

Turkey appealed to the International Court of Arbitration over the Iranian gas price in March 2012.

Earlier, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said that the price on Iranian gas supplied to Turkey is much higher than the market price.

Iran and Turkey signed an agreement in 1996 to supply 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey annually (30 million cubic meters per day).
