'Iran will itself decide on level of uranium enrichment'

13 June 2012 [13:28] - TODAY.AZ
Speaker of Iranian parliament Ali Larijani urged Islamic Republic's delegation to protect Iran's nuclear rights in negotiations with the "5+1" group, Mehr News Agency reported.

Speaking with Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili and his deputy Ali Bagheri, parliament's speaker Ali Larijani said that Iran should never compromise as far as uranium enrichment is concerned.

Larijani added that the level of uranium enrichment is something Iran will decide upon, depending on country's needs.

Iran and 5+1 group (Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany) held three sessions of talks in Baghdad on May 23 and 24 after an earlier round of negotiations in the Turkish city of Istanbul in mid-April. The two sides have agreed to hold another round of talks in Moscow on June 18-19.

Other MPs present at the meeting confirmed that Iran's nuclear rights should be respected within the framework of NPT.

The West, led by the United States, has imposed sanctions against Iran, accusing Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran has repeatedly dismissed the Western allegations, arguing that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has every right to pursue nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
