Azerbaijani Day held in Cairo University

 Azerbaijani Day dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the restoration of the country`s independence was organized in Cairo University of Egypt on Sunday. According to Azerbaijan Embassy in Egypt, the event brought together teaching staff and students of Cairo University, figures of science, foreign students from Africa, South and Southeast Asian countries studying in Egypt.

Addressing the ceremony, professor of Cairo University Dr. Ali Moein briefed on relations established between the Azerbaijani and Egyptian nations and significance of such events.
Azerbaijani ambassador Shahin Abdullayev informed participants on Azerbaijan`s history, culture, lives and creative activities of prominent poets, such as Nizami Ganjavi, Imadaddin Nasimi and Muhammad Fuzuli, carpet-weaving and folk applied art.

Shahin Abdullayev also highlighted the country`s national struggle for independence, irreplaceable role of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in modern Azerbaijan history, dynamic development and achievements gained by President Ilham Aliyev, as well as Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s activity.
The diplomat added Azerbaijan has established relations with the Arabic world, especially with Egypt since the first years of its independence.

Speaking at the event, Professor of Cairo University, Dr. Atef Abdul Hamid said that Azerbaijan always plays an important role between the East and the West, inter-civilization relations, and in the history of the Muslim world.

Representative of Azerbaijani community in Egypt Seymur Nasirov presented his researches and made speech on life and creative activity on Ibn an-Nafis, Arab physician of Azerbaijani origin lived in the 15th century.

Seymur Nasirov`s book titled “Azerbaijan in the Arabic and Egyptian historical sources”, published by the Azerbaijan Embassy, has been presented at the ceremony. The participants also watched films on Azerbaijan history, culture, economy, the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the Khojaly genocide.
