Georgia, Azerbaijan to further coop to ensure regional security

Azerbaijan`s Minister of National Security, lieutenant-general Eldar Mahmudov yesterday met the Georgian delegation led by head of the Intelligence Service Gela Bezhuashvili. Prior to the meeting, the delegation and Eldar Mahmudov visited the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at the tomb of national leader Heydar Aliyev.

They also put flowers at the grave of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
The Georgian delegation visited the Alley of Martyrs to commemorate Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country`s independence and territorial integrity. They laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument.

During the meeting, Eldar Mahmudov said this visit would contribute to developing cooperation between the two countries` relevant bodies. The Azeri Minister briefed Gela Bezhuashvili on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh problem.

They discussed processes in the region, fight against terrorism, extremism, illegal immigration, as well as measures to ensure security of regional and international energy projects. They underlined the close cooperation of the two countries` relevant bodies in this direction.

They also exchanged views on prospects for cooperation between relevant bodies of Azerbaijan and Georgia. Head of the Georgian Intelligence Service Gela Bezhuashvili thanked for hospitality.
He said Georgia would further attach importance to cooperation with special service bodies of Azerbaijan to ensure regional security. They also discussed a number of other issues of mutual interest.
