Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker receives EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus

Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Oktay Asadov received a delegation headed by the EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Philippe Lefort.

Asadov said that Azerbaijan gives great importance to developing relations with European bodies, the Azerbaijani Parliament told Trend. The speaker also said that Azerbaijan greatly appreciates the resolution given to the South Caucasus situation and adopted by the European Parliament in May 2010. It reflects positions on withdrawing Armenian forces from occupied Azerbaijani territories and recognizing the territorial integrity of the countries. "I think that the aggressor and the side subjected to aggressions must not be treated equally," Asadov said.

Lefort said that meetings held by the country’s leadership had a special significance in terms of revealing the real situation. Lefort said that he will do everything to resolve conflicts in the South Caucasus. The head of the Azerbaijani Parliament's administration Safa Mirzayev attended the meeting.
