Matthew Bryza: Azerbaijan will have fine future if it appreciates women’s talent and energy

US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza attended the opening of the Camp GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) in Gabala region of Azerbaijan on July 24.

48 girls at the age of 13-17 from the regions of Azerbaijan are attending the five-day summer camp, the embassy sources told APA. The camp focuses attention on the leadership development like as team work, voluntary activity and solution of the conflict, as well as gender issues and community development.

Bryza told the participants that the women play important leading role in the society. He said the girls’ skills, knowledge and contribution played very important role in the achievements of Azerbaijan, which needs in women leaders as every country. “I believe that Azerbaijan will have fine future if it uses the women’s talent and energy”.

The camp was organized by the US Peace Corps volunteers and their Azerbaijani colleagues and funded by the US Embassy in Baku. It aims to assist the Azerbaijani girls to become active citizens and leaders, who can make changes in their communities. It gives an opportunity to the girls from different regions of Azerbaijan to test themselves as an individual and to discuss the problems they face as the members of the community and citizens of Azerbaijan.

The camp will last until July 29. Similar camp was organized in Gabala for the boys too.
