Azerbaijani diplomat: Thirteen-year-old girl's murder further evidence of Armenia's barbaric policy

The murder of a 13-year-old Azerbaijani child by Armenians indicates the extreme aggression of the Armenian army and its gangs in their brutal policies against the Azerbaijani government and people, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to the UN Agshin Mehdiyev said.

"Such practices, when mined toys are scattered in a combat zone, are unambiguously directed against the civilian population, especially against children. Such actions are condemned by all international legal instruments governing the rules of conduct for the belligerents. The incident once again shows that notions such as international norms do not exist for Armenians," Mehdiyev said.

A terrible accident occurred in the Alibayli village of Azerbaijan's Tovuz district, bordering Armenia. An explosive device killed a 13-year-old girl, Aygun Shahmaliyeva, and heavily wounded her 32-year-old mother Elnara Shahmaliyeva in the hip.

A toy dog was loaded with an explosive device and dropped by what was believed as the Armenian side into the Tovuz River, flowing through the Alibeyli village.

Elsevar Jafarov and Aygun Shahmaliyeva, who were playing near the river, brought the toy to the home of Hasan Jafarov. When Aygun Shahmaliyeva placed the toy on the table, the device inside detonated.

Mehdiyev said the Azerbaijani Permanent Mission in the UN always responds quickly to violations of the cease-fire and other aggressive actions of the Armenians.
"We, on our part, will take all necessary measures to bring to the world community the truth about the next crime committed by Armenians", he added.

A similar incident occurred in this region in 1994. Two young children were killed and one wounded when a toy from Armenia exploded.
