President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva offers anniversary greetings to head of International Gymnastics Federation

President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva has sent a congratulatory message to Bruno Grandi, head of the International Gymnastics Federation which celebrates its 130th anniversary. A letter and a carpet woven by Azerbaijani craftswomen were handed over by Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation Farid Gayibov during the World Gimnastrada which is underway in Lausanne, Switzerland.

In the message, Mrs. Aliyeva notes that the International Gymnastics Federation is one of the oldest sports organizations in the world. “At a time of its birth the Federation united sportsmen of just three states. But today it unites national federations of more than 120 countries.”

"Although Azerbaijan has not entered the world of rhythmic and sports gymnastics long, our country was able to have made great strides during this period. Our athletes win prizes at prestigious international competitions. Azerbaijan hosted the European Championships.

World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships was also held in our country. And most importantly, gymnastics has become popular in Azerbaijan,” the First Lady said in her message.

Mrs. Aliyeva thanked the International Gymnastics Federation “for the help and cooperation, for the support the International Gymnastics Federation has been providing to us during these years”.
