Russian diplomat: Nagorno-Karabakh will be one of the main discussion issues during upcoming negations with the US officials

Nagorno-Karabakh will be one of the main discussion issues during Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s upcoming negotiations with the US officials, APA’s Washington DC correspondent was told by one of the Russian Diplomats who is accompanying Lavrov.

Mr. Lavrov arrived in Washington on Monday afternoon for talks with President Barack Obama and a number of other high-level US officials this week.

The top diplomats will also discuss European missile defense, visa and other bilateral issues.

“The Russia’s position on Nagorno-Karabakh is clear – We support the ongoing peaceful process and are participating in it”, said the Russian source.

Meanwhile, while commenting on Russia’s recent mediation role in the Mountainous Karabakh conflict to APA, US Montana University Professor and well-known American political expert and journalist Thomas Goltz said:

“I have no new or unique insights into the Kazan meeting. What was notable was the sense of expectation for something new among many observers of the drawn-out process because of Medvedev’s (apparent) personal interest in forward movement”.

“Perhaps I am too cynical, but what I saw from a distance was yet another in a seemingly endless series of meetings that go nowhere. The Azerbaijani said that the Armenians were not constructive; the Armenians said the same about the Azerbaijani side”, Mr. Goltz said adding that he would “chose to believe that the problem lies with the Armenians, but again, I have no details”.
