European Commission implements program "Support to reforms in Azerbaijan's justice"

The European Commission implements a program "Support to the reforms in Azerbaijan's justice sector".

The project is designed for 2011 - 2013. It covers such areas as strengthening the potential of the Justice Academy, the regional justice departments and the modernization of the penal system, the Ministry of Justice said.

The project provides for the operations to facilitate citizens' appeals to the judicial bodies, to improve the medical services provided to prisoners, to study the experience of probation, to conduct various educational and training activities.

Minister of Justice Fikret Mammadov received a plenipotentiary delegation of the European Union, that visited our country to discuss the situation in the sphere of fulfilling these projects.

The meeting stressed the fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Commission, democratic reforms approved by international organizations, the importance and benefits of ongoing joint programs and confidence in implementing these important projects.

The guests expressed their willingness to further expand the relations between the European Commission and Azerbaijan. They familiarized with the latest developments in the reforms conducted in the sphere of justice necessary to improve the projects.

The sides discussed the prospects for joint work. They spoke about the upcoming work over a joint program "Comprehensive institutional building". The concrete proposals were made to improve the rationality of the projects.
