Matthew Bryza takes stance on campaign of Armenian Diaspora against the appointment of him as ambassador to Azerbaijan

08 April 2011 [19:06] - TODAY.AZ
"The US is a democratic country, everyone can express his/her position in this country", Matthew Bryza said while taking stance on the information spread by Armenian press on the next campaign of Armenian Diaspora against the appointment of him as ambassador to Azerbaijan.

Ambassador called "wrong" the opinions of Armenian Diaspora representatives  about him: "Those words about me are not right. But everybody has a right to express a position".

To question on the date of hearings at the US Senate related to his appointment as ambassador to Azerbaijan, Bryza said that he did not have any information about it: "The main thing for me is that, I have a right to make a speech and defense myself there".

Remind that, on December 30, 2010, US President Barack Obama signed 6 appointments without ratification of the Senate by using his own authorities, as well as appointed Bryza ambassador to Azerbaijan. According to the President’s order, the ambassador can take up the duties without the ratification of the Senate. But if the Senate does not ratify the ambassadors until the end of the next session of the Congress, president’s order will lose its force.

Matthew Bryza presented credentials to President Aliyev on February 17 and assumed his duties.
